33,000,000 characters (~680+ hours of Agents usage, $5,500+ value) for 12 months
The ElevenLabs Grants Program gives eligible startups 12 months of free access to the full ElevenLabs platform on a grant version of the Scale plan, with 33 million characters of credits. Catches & caveats
ElevenLabs describes the allowance as both '33 million characters' and '33 million credits'. Text to Speech uses 1 credit per character on most models, so the two match for standard voice generation. ElevenLabs' current Agents pricing bills calls by the minute rather than from the shared credit pool, and the grant page doesn't explain how the '680+ hours' figure maps onto that. A required 'ElevenLabs Grants' badge mentioned on third-party sites doesn't appear on the official page.
The ElevenLabs startup grant gives eligible startups 12 months of free access to the full ElevenLabs platform, with 33 million characters of credits. ElevenLabs says that's more than 680 hours of Agents usage and over $5,500 in value. The grant runs on a version of the Scale plan and covers Agents, Text to Speech, Speech to Text and the rest of the platform. To qualify you need fewer than 25 employees, a product with a business model and a business email. Applications are rolling, and decisions come within about a week.
This guide covers what's included, who qualifies, how to apply, what happens when the grant ends, how far 33 million credits go, and how the grant compares with other voice AI offers. Everything was checked against ElevenLabs' official pages on October 17, 2026.

How 33 million credits compare with paid plans
The paid Scale plan costs $299 a month and includes 1.8 million credits a month. Over 12 months that's 21.6 million credits (1.8M x 12) for $3,588 ($299 x 12). The grant's 33 million credits is about 1.5 times that volume. The catch is that the grant is a single pool for the year, not a monthly allowance, so you can use it as fast or as slowly as you like until it runs out or the 12 months end.
| Plan | Price per month | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 10,000 |
| Starter | $6 | 30,000 |
| Creator | $22 | 121,000 |
| Pro | $99 | 600,000 |
| Scale | $299 | 1.8 million |
| Business | $990 | 6 million |
| Startup grant | $0 for 12 months | 33 million total for the year |
How far the credits go
ElevenLabs bills most products in credits. Its pricing page lists these rates:
- Text to Speech: 1 credit per character on the Multilingual v2 models. Flash and Turbo models cost 0.5 to 1 credit per character through the API.
- Speech to Text: 330 credits per minute of audio.
- Sound effects: 200 credits per generation.
- Music: 900 credits per minute.
- Voice Changer and Voice Isolator: 1,000 credits per minute.
- Dubbing: 2,000 to 10,000 credits per minute, depending on mode and watermark.
Worked examples using ElevenLabs' published rates: 33 million credits covers about 33 million characters of Multilingual v2 speech (1 credit per character), and up to about 66 million characters if every request used a Flash model at 0.5 credits per character. Spent only on Speech to Text, it would cover about 100,000 minutes of audio (33,000,000 / 330), roughly 1,667 hours.
A note on Agents usage
ElevenLabs headlines the grant as "over 680 hours of Agents usage". Its current Agents pricing page bills calls by the minute rather than from the shared credit pool: additional call minutes cost $0.08 each, and the paid Scale plan includes 3,738 call minutes a month. LLM usage inside an agent is billed separately and deducted from your credits. The grant page doesn't explain exactly how the 680-hour figure maps onto per-minute billing, so if voice agents are your main use case, check your grant account's usage page early to see how calls are being counted.
Who qualifies
- Size: a startup or small company with fewer than 25 employees when you apply. ElevenLabs' August 2025 announcement says this is open anywhere in the world.
- Business model: you need a monetized product use case, meaning a business or monetization strategy.
- Business email: you must apply with a valid business email address.
- Long-term product: short-term or one-off projects and marketing campaigns don't qualify.
- Audience: products aimed at children 18 or under are excluded.
- Company type: agencies, consulting firms and SMBs aren't eligible.
- Existing customers: paying self-serve customers can apply; existing enterprise customers can't.
- One per company: each company can apply once.
In practice, a three-person startup building an AI receptionist, a language-learning app for adults or an audiobook tool fits well. A marketing agency producing voiceovers for clients, a one-off ad campaign or a reading app for children doesn't.
How to apply, step by step
- Sign up for ElevenLabs with your business email. The grant is applied to the account you apply with, so use the account your team will keep.
- Open the grants application from the Startup Grants page.
- Describe your startup, your team and your expected growth. ElevenLabs' announcement suggests explaining how you plan to use the platform, for example a game, an education tool or a support bot.
- Submit, and wait up to about a week. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with no deadline.
- If approved, your account is upgraded and the 33 million credits appear on it.
ElevenLabs doesn't sign NDAs for grant applications. Describe your product clearly, but leave out anything you need to keep confidential.
Rules while you're on the grant
- Credits can't be exchanged, resold or traded for cash. ElevenLabs says doing so ends the grant immediately.
- The grant is for building a product you intend to take to market, not for one-off content jobs.
- ElevenLabs emails you as you approach the 33 million character cap.
What happens when the grant ends
The grant ends after 12 months, or earlier when you've used the credits. ElevenLabs' grants page says the plan converts automatically to the Free plan after 12 months or once your balance falls to 10,000 credits, unless you choose otherwise. The Free plan includes 10,000 credits a month but no commercial license, so a live product needs a paid plan by then.
- Your product is growing: contact ElevenLabs sales about a long-term or Enterprise plan.
- Steady but smaller usage: upgrade to a self-serve paid plan, from Starter at $6 a month to Business at $990 a month.
- Paused or pivoted: stay on the Free plan. ElevenLabs says there's no commitment beyond the 12-month term.
How to get the most out of the grant
- Use Flash models where quality allows. At 0.5 to 1 credit per character through the API, they can stretch the pool up to twice as far as Multilingual v2.
- Plan for month 12 from the start. Know which paid plan your expected usage needs, so the switch doesn't interrupt a live product.
- Track usage monthly. The grant is one annual pool. Dividing 33 million by 12 gives 2.75 million a month as a rough even pace.
- Join the founder events. ElevenLabs includes community and startup support with the grant.
- Ask your VC. ElevenLabs lets VCs sign up to give portfolio companies access to credits, events and product updates.
Common mistakes
- Applying from a personal account. The grant lands on the account you apply with, and ElevenLabs asks for a business email. Applying from a personal address can cause problems with both.
- Applying as an agency or for a campaign. Agencies, consultancies and one-off projects are excluded, however small the team.
- Building for under-18s. Products aimed at children 18 or under aren't eligible, even if the company otherwise qualifies.
- Forgetting the 10,000-credit trigger. The plan converts to Free once your balance falls to 10,000 credits, not only at zero. Upgrade before then if your product is live.
- Applying twice. It's one application per company, so make the first one count.
