Good to know
Consumer tiers and monthly prices are confirmed on xAI's own announcement (x.ai/news/x-subscription): Free, Plus $8, Premium $30 (SuperGrok + Cursor Pro + X Premium+ benefits, 4x usage), Super $100 (15x), Ultra $200 (50x). Annual prices ($80/$300/$1,000/$2,000) are from Cursor's official pricing docs. Prices exclude tax. xAI confirms existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers keep their plans and prices unless they switch (prorated refund). Legacy prices are left out.
Since October 12, 2026, new Grok customers buy The X Subscription, a single plan for Grok, Cursor and X. It has five tiers: Free, Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200). Premium replaces SuperGrok for new subscribers and, according to xAI, covers SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which it says cost $90/month combined. Developers can also pay for Grok separately through the xAI API, where grok-4.7 costs $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens. All figures were checked against xAI and Cursor's official pages on October 17, 2026.
The X Subscription tiers
| Tier | Monthly | Annual | Usage | Key inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | - | Limited | Daily Grok access, starter Cursor agent allowance, standard X |
| Plus | $8 | $80 | Base | Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine, Build; Grok API access; X checkmark, fewer ads |

| Ultra | $200 | $2,000 | 50x Plus | Everything in Super, earliest access to new products and models |
Prices exclude tax. Monthly prices come from xAI's launch post, and annual prices from Cursor's official pricing docs, which describe the same plans.
Free
The free tier gives daily Grok access, a starter allowance for Cursor's coding agent and standard X. xAI doesn't publish exact message limits for Free.
Plus ($8/month)
Plus is the base paid tier. It includes Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine (image and video) and Build, plus access to the Grok API. In Cursor, Plus covers Cursor's own models (Grok 4.7, 4.6, 4.5 and Composer 2.5) at fixed settings. It doesn't include Auto mode, Cloud Agents, Automations, Bugbot or third-party models such as Claude or GPT. On X, Plus adds a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads.
Premium ($30/month)
Premium is the tier most former SuperGrok users will compare. It gives 4x Plus usage and adds Cloud Agents, Automations, Origin code hosting, Bugbot code review, Grok Bot and third-party models in Cursor. Third-party models aren't part of the included usage. They're billed at API list price from prepaid credit.
Super ($100) and Ultra ($200)
Super and Ultra have the same features as Premium with much more usage: 15x Plus on Super and 50x Plus on Ultra. Super adds priority model access at peak times, and Ultra adds the earliest access to new products and models.
Teams and Enterprise
Teams pay per seat at individual prices: $30 (Premium), $100 (Super) or $200 (Ultra), and seat tiers can be mixed. Plus isn't available for teams. Teams get SSO, admin controls, centralized billing, usage analytics and one shared prepaid balance. Third-party model requests on Teams carry a Cursor Token Rate of $0.25 per million tokens on top of model pricing. Enterprise is custom-priced and adds pooled usage across Grok and Cursor, invoicing, SCIM and advanced security controls.
How usage and overages work
Paid plans share one weekly usage pool across Cursor's Agent, CLI, Cloud Agents, Grok Bot and the Grok apps. Different models use the pool at different rates, so xAI and Cursor don't publish a fixed message count. When the pool runs out, you can wait for the weekly reset, pay from prepaid credit at per-model rates, or upgrade. Cursor says requests aren't downgraded in quality or speed. You can turn on Auto Top-up and set a monthly additional usage limit at grok.com/dashboard/billing.
The Grok API is billed separately and doesn't draw from the subscription pool, even though Plus and higher list "Grok API access".
Existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers
xAI says current SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers keep their plan, price and features if they do nothing. When the option appears in billing settings, they can switch to The X Subscription and get a prorated refund for the old plan, plus limited-time offers. Our SuperGrok guide covers what legacy subscribers keep and how to decide whether to switch.
Worked cost examples: subscriptions
1. Annual vs monthly billing
- Plus: $8 × 12 = $96 monthly vs $80 annual, so you save $16
- Premium: $30 × 12 = $360 vs $300, so you save $60
- Super: $100 × 12 = $1,200 vs $1,000, so you save $200
- Ultra: $200 × 12 = $2,400 vs $2,000, so you save $400
On every tier, annual billing is 10 months' price for 12 months, or about 16.7% off.
2. Cost per unit of usage
Measured in "Plus units" of usage: Plus is $8 ÷ 1 = $8.00, Premium is $30 ÷ 4 = $7.50, Super is $100 ÷ 15 ≈ $6.67 and Ultra is $200 ÷ 50 = $4.00 per Plus unit. Ultra is half the per-unit cost of Plus, but only if you actually use most of it.
3. Premium vs separate subscriptions
xAI values the three products Premium replaces (SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+) at $90 a month combined. On that figure, Premium saves $90 − $30 = $60 a month, or $720 a year on monthly billing. That only matters if you'd use all three. If you only want Grok chat, compare Plus and Premium on usage, not the bundle value.
4. A five-person dev team
Five Premium seats cost 5 × $30 = $150 per month. If the team also sends 20 million tokens a month to third-party models through Cursor, the Cursor Token Rate adds 20 × $0.25 = $5, on top of those models' own API prices.
Worked cost examples: xAI API
5. A chatbot with prompt caching on grok-4.7
Say each request sends a 2,000-token cached system prompt plus 1,000 new input tokens and returns 500 output tokens, and you handle 1,000 requests a day for 30 days.
- Cached input: 2,000 × $0.50 ÷ 1,000,000 = $0.001
- New input: 1,000 × $2.00 ÷ 1,000,000 = $0.002
- Output: 500 × $6.00 ÷ 1,000,000 = $0.003
- Per request: $0.006. Per month: $0.006 × 1,000 × 30 = $180
- Without caching, input would cost 3,000 × $2.00 ÷ 1,000,000 = $0.006, so each request costs $0.009 and the month costs $270
6. Crossing the 200K long-context threshold
xAI charges the long-context rate on all tokens in a request once the prompt reaches 200K. A 190K-token prompt with 2,000 output tokens on grok-4.7 costs 190,000 × $2 ÷ 1M + 2,000 × $6 ÷ 1M = $0.38 + $0.012 = $0.392. A 250K-token prompt costs 250,000 × $4 ÷ 1M + 2,000 × $12 ÷ 1M = $1.00 + $0.024 = $1.024. Splitting or trimming long documents below 200K can roughly halve the rate.
7. Batch jobs on grok-4.3
The Batch API is 20% off for grok-4.3 and the grok-4.20-0309 models (not grok-4.7). For 10M input and 2M output tokens, the standard price is 10 × $1.25 + 2 × $2.50 = $12.50 + $5.00 = $17.50. The batch price is $17.50 × 0.8 = $14.00.
8. Tool calls
Server-side tools cost extra. Web Search, Code Execution and File Attachments are $5 per 1,000 calls, and X Search is $5 per 1,000 posts returned. An agent that makes 2,000 web searches a month adds 2 × $5 = $10, on top of token costs.
Other xAI API charges
- Images: $0.02 to $0.05 per image depending on the Imagine model. Video: $0.02 to $0.08 per second.
- Voice: speech-to-speech is $0.08 per minute ($4.80 per hour), and text-to-speech is $15 per 1M characters.
- Priority Processing costs 2x standard rates, and the US regional endpoint bills tokens at 1.1x.
- Storage: files cost $0.025 per GiB per day, and collections cost $0.10 per GiB per day.
- Requests blocked for usage-guideline violations before generation cost $0.05 each in the Responses API.
xAI's pricing docs don't mention free signup credits. Our xAI API free credits page tracks what's confirmed.
Which Grok plan should you pick?
- Occasional Grok chat: Free, then Plus if you hit limits.
- Daily Grok user who wants the full SuperGrok experience: Premium at $30.
- Developers using Cursor with Claude or GPT models: Premium or higher, since Plus doesn't allow third-party models. Budget for API list prices on top.
- Heavy agent users: Super or Ultra, depending on how often you exhaust Premium's weekly pool.
- Apps and automations: the xAI API, billed per token and separate from any subscription.
How Grok compares
Grok Plus ($8) matches the price of ChatGPT Go, and Premium ($30) sits above ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro at $20 but includes coding-agent usage in Cursor. Because Cursor now sells the same tiers, see our Cursor pricing page for the coding side. For research-focused search, compare Perplexity. On the API, grok-4.3 at $1.25 / $2.50 is one of the cheaper long-context options.
Student offers
xAI's X Subscription announcement doesn't mention a student discount. The earlier free SuperGrok offer for students has ended. See SuperGrok free for students for its history.
