SuperGrok in 2026: Price, The X Subscription & Is Grok Free?
SuperGrok was xAI's paid Grok subscription. Since October 12, 2026, new customers get The X Subscription instead. It bundles Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium in five tiers: Free, Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200). According to xAI, the $30 Premium tier includes the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+.
Grok is still free to use with limits. Neither xAI's announcement nor its X Subscription help pages mention a free trial for the paid tiers. If you already pay for SuperGrok, your plan keeps running at its current price until you choose to switch, and switching is permanent.
What changed in October 2026
- On October 12, 2026, xAI announced The X Subscription, one plan that combines Grok (chat, voice, image and video generation), Grok Bot (xAI calls these "AI teammates"), Cursor's local and cloud coding agents and X Premium features. xAI said it was available to new customers that day and would reach everyone globally over the following days.
- The bundle follows a run of corporate changes. Teslarati reports that SpaceX bought Cursor for $60 billion in a deal that closed in August 2026, and that xAI's AI business now operates under the SpaceX umbrella (it was renamed SpaceXAI and, in October, SpaceXSI). For subscribers, the practical effect is that Grok, Cursor and X are now sold as one product.
- Paid tiers share one weekly pool of included usage across Grok and Cursor. Cursor's docs say the pool refreshes weekly, so one heavy day doesn't drain a whole month.
- Existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers keep their current plan, price and features unless they choose to switch. xAI's docs say switching is optional, cancels the old subscription with a prorated refund, and can't be undone, even by Support.
- Cursor's help center says legacy plans aren't available to new customers. Teslarati's launch coverage likewise reports that the old standalone plans are closed to new sign-ups.
Grok plans and prices (The X Subscription)
| Tier | Monthly | Yearly | Usage | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | - | Limited | Daily Grok access, a starter Cursor agent allowance, standard X |
| Plus | $8 | $80 | Base | More Grok and Cursor usage (Cursor's own models only, at fixed settings), Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, Grok API access, X checkmark, creator tools, fewer ads |
| Premium | $30 | $300 | 4x Plus | SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ benefits. Grok Bot, Cloud Agents, Automations, Bugbot code review, third-party models in Cursor (paid at API list price) |
| Super | $100 | $1,000 | 15x Plus | Everything in Premium, plus priority model access at peak times |
| Ultra | $200 | $2,000 | 50x Plus | Everything in Super, plus earliest access to new models and products |
Monthly prices and usage multiples come from xAI's announcement and Cursor's pricing page. Yearly prices come from Cursor's pricing docs, which list them excluding tax. xAI hasn't published local-currency prices, so expect tax or VAT on top depending on where you live. Usage beyond your plan is billed at API list prices through prepaid top-ups. Team seats get Premium, Super or Ultra at the same per-seat prices; Plus isn't offered for teams. Full details are on Grok pricing and Cursor pricing.
What the yearly prices save
Each yearly price equals ten monthly payments. Premium monthly for a year costs $30 × 12 = $360, against $300 yearly, a saving of $60. Super works out to $1,200 versus $1,000 (saving $200), and Ultra to $2,400 versus $2,000 (saving $400). Plus is $96 versus $80. The trade-off is that you commit for twelve months. xAI's refund pages describe prorated refunds only for old plans cancelled during a switch, not for cancelling a new yearly plan, so check the terms before paying upfront.
Which new tier replaces SuperGrok?
xAI says Premium ($30/month) includes the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which it says used to cost $90/month combined. Former SuperGrok Heavy users (TechCrunch reported a $300/month price when it launched in July 2025, with early access to Grok 4 Heavy) should compare usage, not price: Super gives 15x Plus usage and Ultra 50x. xAI also says each comparable new tier gives more usage per dollar than the plan it replaces.
| If you used to have | Closest new tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Free Grok | Free | Same idea: daily Grok access with limits, now plus a small Cursor allowance |
| X Premium (Basic or Premium) | Plus ($8) | Checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads, plus more Grok and Cursor usage |
| SuperGrok, X Premium+ or Cursor Pro | Premium ($30) | xAI says Premium includes the benefits of all three, and it's the lowest tier with full X Premium+ benefits and Grok Bot |
| SuperGrok Heavy or a heavy Cursor plan | Super ($100) or Ultra ($200) | Compare weekly usage and priority access rather than the old price |
If you already have SuperGrok, you don't need to do anything. Your plan keeps running at its current price. Switch only if a new tier gives you more for what you pay, because xAI says the switch can't be undone.
Should you switch from SuperGrok?
Switching makes most sense if you also pay for Cursor or X Premium separately. Folding two or three bills into one Premium plan can cost less, and the coding usage moves into the shared pool. If you only use Grok chat and are happy with your current limits, staying put costs nothing, since xAI says nothing changes for existing subscribers.
- Reasons to switch: you pay for Cursor or X Premium as well; you want Grok Bot, Cursor's Cloud Agents or Bugbot; you want one bill and one usage dashboard; or you'd like a limited-time switching offer, which xAI says appears in billing settings.
- Reasons to wait: you're on an older price you like; your usage is light; you're on an Enterprise or invoice-billed contract that can't switch self-serve yet; or you're unsure, since the change can't be reversed.
- Things that change when you switch: a new billing cycle starts that day, Grok and Cursor share one weekly pool, and X benefits come from The X Subscription once you connect a personal X account.
How to switch, step by step
- Check whether the option is available to you. xAI says the switch is rolling out gradually and appears in your account's billing settings when it's ready.
- Start from the right place. From Cursor, go to cursor.com/unify. From Grok or X, use accounts.x.ai/unify, or upgrade from x.com. You can also use the Unify option inside Cursor or Grok.
- Pick the accounts to combine. You can merge a personal Cursor account, a Grok account and one personal X account. Each X account pairs with only one Grok account, and organisation-managed or affiliate X accounts can't be connected.
- Choose your tier (Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra) and complete checkout. Clear any unpaid or past-due invoices first, because they block the switch.
- Old direct-billed SuperGrok, Cursor and paid X Premium subscriptions are cancelled at checkout. The prorated refund goes back to your original payment method; it isn't applied as credit to the new plan.
- If you paid through an app store, finish the cleanup yourself. Cursor bought on the Apple App Store must be cancelled in iPhone or iPad Settings, or Apple keeps billing you. Grok, Grok Bot or X Premium bought on Apple are cancelled automatically, but Apple decides the refund. On Google Play, check your subscriptions and cancel if it's still set to renew.
- Afterwards, manage your plan, usage, invoices and top-ups at grok.com/dashboard.
Personal and team accounts can't be merged with each other, and Enterprise accounts can't be combined with personal ones. Cursor-only Enterprise customers have to switch through their account team, and other Enterprise setups can't switch yet.
How usage limits work now
On paid tiers, Grok and Cursor draw from one weekly pool. According to Cursor's docs, the pool covers Agent in the editor, the CLI, Cloud Agents, Grok Bot and the Grok apps, and different models use it up at different rates. Plus is the base amount, Premium gets 4x, Super 15x and Ultra 50x. xAI doesn't publish the base amount as a message or token count.
- Where to check: the Current plan card and the Usage page at grok.com/dashboard, or Cursor's editor settings, show what you've used and when the pool resets.
- When you run out: wait for the weekly reset, pay from prepaid credit, or upgrade. Cursor says requests aren't downgraded in quality or speed.
- Prepaid credit and top-ups: credit pays for usage beyond your weekly allowance and for third-party models such as Claude or GPT in Cursor, which are billed at API list prices from the first request. You can top up manually or turn on Auto Top-up under Additional usage credits.
- Spending cap: a monthly additional usage limit stops paid extra usage once reached, even if you still have credit. Leave it unset for no cap.
- Plus restrictions: Plus uses Cursor's own models (Grok and Composer) at fixed settings. Fast mode, effort levels, Cloud Agents, Automations, Bugbot and third-party models need Premium or higher.
Is Grok free?
Yes, with limits. The X Subscription's Free tier includes daily Grok access, a starter allowance for Cursor's coding agents and standard X. Cursor's help center says Free covers Agent, Chat and Tab completions with Cursor's own models. xAI doesn't publish exact free-tier message counts, and older figures from 2024 (such as 10 prompts every two hours) are out of date. Your account shows its remaining allowance.
Users on Free stay free until they pick a paid plan; xAI doesn't move anyone onto a paid tier automatically. If the free allowance isn't enough, Plus at $8/month is the cheapest step up, but it doesn't include Grok Bot or full X Premium+ benefits.
Is there a Grok or SuperGrok free trial?
Not that we could confirm. xAI's October 2026 announcement, its X Subscription docs and Cursor's pricing and help pages list a free tier but no free trial for Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra. People who switch from a legacy plan may see limited-time offers in their billing settings. Separately, xAI's billing page shows promotional credit grants with their own expiry dates, so a promotion can appear there if xAI runs one.
In April 2025, xAI posted on X that US students with a .edu email could get two free months of SuperGrok. We found no official sign that this is still running, and xAI's October 2026 pages don't mention a student offer. See SuperGrok for students. If you're a student, other AI tools have current student programs, listed in our GitHub Copilot for students and Google AI Pro for students pages.
Ignore sites selling "SuperGrok trial codes" or shared accounts. Buy plans only through x.ai, grok.com, X or Cursor.
Grok API: is it free?
The Grok API is separate from the consumer plans. Cursor's docs list Grok API access under Plus and higher, but API usage is billed separately and doesn't come out of the weekly pool. xAI's developer docs describe prepaid credits (with optional auto top-up from $5), invoiced billing on request, and promo codes you can redeem on the spend management page, but no signup credit. With the default settings, API requests are rejected once prepaid credit runs out, so you can't overspend by accident.
On xAI's models page, the flagship Grok 4.7 costs $2.00 per million input tokens and $6.00 per million output tokens for prompts under 200,000 tokens, and $4.00 / $12.00 for longer prompts. Third-party sites say the earlier $25 signup and data-sharing credits ended, but we couldn't confirm that on an xAI page. See xAI Grok API free credits, and for free options from other providers, free AI API keys.
Getting the most out of each tier
- Light chat user: stay on Free and watch the allowance in your dashboard. Upgrade only if you hit the limit regularly.
- X power user: Plus at $8 gives the checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads plus extra Grok usage. You need Premium or higher to keep full X Premium+ benefits.
- Developer who already pays for Cursor Pro: Premium at $30 adds SuperGrok and X Premium+ benefits, and Cursor's docs say each plan includes at least twice the Grok-model coding usage of the comparable older Cursor plan. Set a monthly additional usage limit if you use Claude or GPT in Cursor, since those are always paid from credit.
- Heavy agent user: Super's 15x and Ultra's 50x multiples matter more than the sticker price. Cursor suggests Super for daily users and Ultra for people running several agents or Automations.
- Teams: seats can mix Premium, Super and Ultra on one team, with SSO, admin controls and one shared prepaid balance and spending cap.
How it compares
The X Subscription is unusual because it bundles a chatbot, a coding tool and a social network. If you only want a chatbot, compare it with ChatGPT plans, Claude plans, Google AI plans and Perplexity. If coding is the main use, compare Premium with Cursor's legacy and new plans and GitHub Copilot. For ways to cut costs across providers, see how to get free AI credits.
Common problems
- I can't see the switch option. xAI says it's rolling out gradually. Legacy request-based Cursor users have to opt in to new pricing first, and legacy request-based teams and invoice-billed customers can't switch self-serve.
- I'm still being charged for my old plan. Check whether it was bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those have to be cancelled in the store, and xAI also sends an email reminder to cancel old subscriptions.
- My X benefits are missing. Benefits start only after you connect a personal X account. If you unified without connecting X, xAI says to contact Support.
- Claude or GPT in Cursor stopped working. Third-party models need Premium or higher and prepaid credit. Check your balance and your monthly additional usage limit.
- I have several Cursor accounts. You choose a primary account and the others merge into it, though xAI says this isn't available for every account.
Frequently asked questions
›What is SuperGrok?

›How much is SuperGrok now?
New customers can't buy standalone SuperGrok. The equivalent tier, Premium, is $30/month or $300/year before tax. Existing SuperGrok subscribers keep their current price unless they switch.
›Is Grok free?
Yes. The Free tier includes daily Grok access with limits, a starter Cursor allowance and standard X. xAI doesn't publish exact free message counts.
›Is there a SuperGrok free trial?
We found no official free trial for the new paid tiers. Legacy subscribers who switch may see limited-time offers in billing settings. The 2025 two-month offer for US students hasn't been confirmed as still running.
