Perplexity Pro Student Discount (2026): Education Pro Explained

Perplexity doesn't give students Pro for free right now, but it does sell a discounted plan called Education Pro. Verified students and educators get everything in Perplexity Pro plus education-specific features, and the discount is applied automatically at checkout once SheerID approves you. Perplexity's help center lists Education Pro at $10/month.

What Education Pro includes

According to Perplexity's help center, Education Pro is "offered to verified students and educators at a discount" and includes everything in Pro, plus education-specific tips and nudges. The Pro features the help center lists include:

• Perplexity Computer. The pricing page says Pro includes expanded Computer access and 4,000 bonus credits.
• Unlimited Pro Searches and Deep Research for longer, cited reports.
• Premium models, with the option to choose a model for each query.
• File and image uploads, so you can ask questions about lecture slides, papers or screenshots.
• Premium data sources such as PitchBook and Statista, and search across the web, your files and connected apps (per the pricing page).
• Learn Mode for verified students (see below).

Learn Mode

Learn Mode is Perplexity's study mode. Instead of only giving an answer, it explains topics step by step, asks guiding questions and can turn your study material into flashcards, multiple-choice quizzes and free-response exercises. Perplexity's help article is inconsistent about who gets it: one part says it is available to all users, while the access section says it is only available to verified students. Verified students see a Learn icon in the search mode toggles on the web app.

What it costs

At $10/month, a year of Education Pro costs 12 x $10 = $120. Regular Pro costs 12 x $20 = $240 on monthly billing or $200 on annual billing, so the student price saves $120 a year against monthly Pro and $80 against annual Pro. If you only need it for one semester, you can cancel before the next renewal; the cancelling section below explains how. Always check the total at checkout before paying. There is no free Education Pro period on Perplexity's official pages. Perplexity's billing FAQ says trial and promotional subscriptions auto-renew at the standard rate for the plan you chose, so read the checkout screen carefully if you are shown any introductory offer.

Who qualifies

• Students and educators. Perplexity describes the plan as for students or faculty.
• SheerID must approve you. If approval is pending, you have to wait. If it's rejected, Perplexity says you can't use Education Pro at this time.
• Your school must be in SheerID's database. If it isn't listed, you can ask SheerID to add your institution.
• Any login email works. Your Perplexity account can use a personal email, and the email you verify with doesn't have to match it. Remember which account you redeemed the discount on.

Perplexity's help pages don't list eligible countries or an age limit for Education Pro. Whether you qualify depends on SheerID being able to verify your school.

How to get Education Pro, step by step

1. Create a Perplexity account at perplexity.ai with any email, or sign in to your existing one.
2. Click Upgrade in the bottom-left corner, switch to the Education plan and click Verify as student.
3. Complete SheerID verification. If you see a VPN error, Perplexity suggests clearing your cache and verifying again. If it keeps happening, contact SheerID through its support form.
4. Check out on desktop web. Go to perplexity.ai, click Upgrade Plan in the bottom-left of the sidebar, stay in the Personal view and select Pro. Perplexity says your verified Education Pro discount is applied at checkout.
5. Pay with a supported method. Perplexity lists Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Cash App, Google Pay, Apple Pay and ACH transfer. Payment is completed on a Stripe page.

Students can also reach the offer from Perplexity's Comet browser page for students (perplexity.ai/grow/comet/students), which advertises discounted Pro together with Comet. It doesn't list a price either.

Troubleshooting

• Checkout shows the full price. Use the desktop web flow. An unpaid earlier subscription can block the discounted checkout. Perplexity says not to pay the full price in that case and to contact support.
• Card declined. Check that your payment method is accepted, and ask your bank to allow the charge.
• Pro status not showing after payment. Check for past-due payments, confirm SheerID approved you, and make sure you are logged in with the right email. Apple relay (masked) email addresses can make it look like a different account. Clearing your cache or resetting the mobile app can also help.
• Still stuck. Pro subscribers can use the Pro Discord channel or Help > Contact Support. Perplexity says support aims to respond within one to two business days.

Renewal, cancelling and refunds

• It renews automatically on your billing date until you cancel. Perplexity's billing FAQ says subscriptions can't be paused.
• Cancel on the web in Settings: under Subscription, click Manage Subscription, then Cancel subscription. App Store and Google Play subscriptions have to be cancelled in those stores.
• You keep Pro until the end of the billing cycle, then the account returns to the Free plan.
• Cancel before deleting your account. Deleting your account doesn't end the subscription.
• Refunds are handled case by case. Perplexity says it may refund a forgotten cancellation if your request follows its guidelines.

Perplexity's help pages don't say how often you have to re-verify student status. If you change your login email, you have to verify again, since the discount isn't transferable.

Getting real value from Education Pro

• Revise with Learn Mode. Upload your lecture notes or slides and ask Learn Mode for flashcards or a multiple-choice quiz before an exam. It is built to make you work through the material rather than hand over answers.
• Start literature searches with Deep Research, then open and read the cited sources yourself. Citations show where a claim came from, but they don't prove the summary is right, and most courses expect you to cite the original papers, not Perplexity.
• Ask questions about your own files. File and image uploads let you query a long PDF, a dataset description or a screenshot of a problem set.
• Choose the model per query. Pro lets you pick a model for each question. Use a faster model for quick lookups and save the strongest one for hard reasoning.
• Check your course rules first. Many schools set limits on AI use in graded work, and a paid plan doesn't change them.

Is it worth paying for?

The Free plan already gives cited answers with limited daily use, so many students won't need to pay. Education Pro makes sense if you regularly hit the free limits, rely on Deep Research or file uploads for coursework, or want Learn Mode's quiz tools. If you pay monthly, you keep access until the end of the billing cycle after cancelling, so you can subscribe for a busy term and cancel during breaks.

Earlier free-Pro offers for students

Perplexity has run several free-Pro campaigns for students, which is why many older guides still say Perplexity Pro is free for students. These included a US campus referral program in 2024 and 2025 and country-specific free-year deals. None of them is on Perplexity's official pages now, so treat any free-year claim with caution unless you see it at checkout.

How it compares
