Notion for Startups: Business Plan Free for Up to 6 Months (Save $12,000)

Notion Business plan free for up to 6 months (up to $12,000 value)

Notion for Startups gives eligible startups the Notion Business plan, including Notion AI, free for up to 6 months, worth up to $12,000 for a 100-person team. The length depends on your route: 6 months if you're affiliated with one of Notion's startup partners, 3 months if you have a valid business website and company-domain email, and 1 month for companies under 10 employees, SMBs, service businesses, or applicants Notion can't verify as startups.

Who is eligible

  • Non-paying Notion customer (existing paid customers aren't eligible)
  • Valid work email; personal addresses such as Gmail or Outlook don't qualify
  • No previous Notion promotions
  • Fewer than 100 employees
  • 6 months: affiliated with one of Notion's select startup partners (VCs, accelerators and similar)
  • 3 months: valid business website and company-domain email address, with startup details Notion can verify
  • 1 month: under 10 employees, SMBs, service-based businesses (including agencies and consultancies), or applicants Notion couldn't verify as startups; solo applicants usually fall here
  • 3- and 6-month offers are for startups building scalable, tech-related products or services

How to claim it

  1. If you're affiliated with a Notion partner, get your unique partner code from them first
  2. Fill out the application at notion.com/startups-apply, using your company email and including any partner code
  3. Wait up to 3–5 business days for Notion's reply
  4. When approved, Notion emails you to confirm the Business plan has been applied to your workspace; the upgrade takes effect immediately

Catches & caveats

Offer length depends on your route: 6 months with a startup-partner code, 3 months for verified startups with a business website and company-domain email, 1 month for companies under 10 employees, SMBs, service businesses or unverified applicants. Notion's public pages don't explain what happens at the end of the free period, so check your workspace billing settings before it ends.

Notion for Startups gives new, non-paying companies with fewer than 100 employees the Notion Business plan, including Notion AI, free for 1, 3 or 6 months. The 6-month offer needs a code from one of Notion's startup partners. Verified tech startups without a partner get 3 months. Teams under 10 people, service businesses and applicants Notion can't verify get 1 month. Notion values the top offer at up to $12,000.

The three offer lengths

OfferWho gets itWhat you need
6 months freeStartups affiliated with one of Notion's select startup partnersA unique partner code, under 100 employees, public company website, company email, new non-paying customer
3 months freeStartups without a partner whose details Notion can verifyUnder 100 employees, a valid business website and a company-domain email
1 month freeCompanies under 10 employees, SMBs, service businesses, or unverified applicantsSame basic eligibility; this is the fallback when startup status isn't fully met

Notion's help center says the 3- and 6-month offers are for startups building scalable, tech-related products or services. Agencies, consultancies and other service businesses fall into the 1-month offer even if they are otherwise eligible.

What the Business plan includes

The startup offer upgrades your workspace to Notion's Business plan, one step below Enterprise. According to Notion's pricing page, Business is the plan that includes the full set of Notion AI features:

  • Notion Agent, Notion's built-in AI assistant for writing, summarizing and working across your pages.
  • AI Meeting Notes, which transcribes and summarizes meetings into Notion pages.
  • Enterprise Search (in beta), which searches Notion and connected tools from one place.
  • Everything in Notion's lower plans: unlimited pages and blocks, collaboration, databases, wikis, projects and forms.

Free and Plus plans only get a trial of Notion AI, so for a startup the AI features are the main thing the offer unlocks. Notion also sells Custom Agents separately: free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. The startup pages don't say the offer covers those credits, so don't assume heavy Custom Agent use is free.

What the offer is worth

Notion values the offer using the Business plan price of $20 per member per month, billed annually. The pricing page says yearly billing saves up to 20% compared with monthly billing. The $12,000 headline is the maximum: a 100-person team on the 6-month offer.

Team sizeOfferCalculationList-price value
100 members6 months100 × $20 × 6$12,000
40 members6 months40 × $20 × 6$4,800
25 members3 months25 × $20 × 3$1,500
12 members3 months12 × $20 × 3$720
5 members1 month5 × $20 × 1$100

For most small startups the real saving is a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. That's still useful, but the big number on the landing page only applies to large, partner-backed teams.

Eligibility in detail

  • Non-paying customer: you must not currently pay for Notion. The help center says existing paid customers aren't eligible and prior invoices aren't refunded. A free workspace is fine.
  • Work email: apply with a company-domain address. Notion says Gmail, Outlook and similar personal addresses don't qualify.
  • No previous promotions: if your company has already used a Notion promotion, you're out.
  • Under 100 employees: larger companies aren't eligible.
  • Verifiable startup: Notion checks your website and public presence. An inactive or incomplete website, only personal social profiles, or thin business details push you to the 1-month offer.
  • One redemption: the offer can be used once, even if several of your investors are Notion partners, and can't be combined with other offers or codes.
  • Not for Enterprise: the offer doesn't apply to Enterprise plans.

Solo founders are a common case for the 1-month offer. Notion lists a solo applicant among the usual reasons for it. If you're a one-person company, expect 1 month unless you have a partner code.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Ask your investors or accelerator for a Notion partner code. Many VCs and accelerators belong to Notion's partner network. Their code is what unlocks 6 months. If you have a partner but no code, contact the partner first. Notion's help center says partner-code questions go to the partner.
  2. Make sure your workspace and website are in order. Use the workspace your team will actually work in, sign up with your company email, and make sure your website is live and describes your product.
  3. Apply at [notion.com/startups-apply](https://www.notion.com/startups-apply) (the "Unlock your startup offer" button on the Notion for Startups page). Fill in company details fully, because incomplete information is one reason for the 1-month result.
  4. Wait 3–5 business days. Notion asks you to allow that long before following up.
  5. Check your email. When approved, Notion emails you to confirm the Business plan has been applied to your workspace. The upgrade takes effect immediately.
  6. Note the end date. Write down when the free period ends so you can decide on billing in time.

When the free period ends

Notion's public startup page and help article don't explain what happens at the end of the free months, for example whether the workspace moves to paid Business automatically or reverts to a lower plan. Notion links full program terms from the startup page. Read those, and check Settings > Billing in your workspace before the end date. Your options are generally:

  • Keep Business and pay the normal per-member price, choosing annual billing to save up to 20% versus monthly.
  • Move to Plus if you don't need the full AI features. Plus costs less but only includes a trial of Notion AI.
  • Drop to Free if your use is light. Check Notion's plan limits first so you understand what changes for your pages and members.

Getting the most out of the free months

  • Invite the whole team on day one. The offer's value scales with members. Getting everyone in early lets you judge Business properly before paying.
  • Set up AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search early. These Business-only features are the hardest to replace with cheaper tools, so test them first.
  • Use Notion's startup resources. The help center points startups to "Startup in a box" templates, the Notion Champions community and Notion Academy tutorials. The startup page also mentions Notion Perks software discounts and one free setup session with a Notion Certified Consultant, both of which you apply for separately.
  • Decide on your plan before the end date so billing doesn't surprise you.

Recent changes

  • Notion now publishes a clear three-way split: 6 months for partner-affiliated startups, 3 months for verified startups without a partner, and 1 month for small teams, SMBs, service businesses and unverified applicants.
  • The offer is built around the Business plan with Notion AI included, the plan that carries Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search.
  • Notion is growing its partner network. VCs, accelerators and other startup organizations can apply to become partners so their portfolio companies get the 6-month offer. Notion says partner applications get a response within 2–5 business days and that it is especially interested in partners outside major tech hubs. If your investor isn't a partner yet, it may be worth asking them to apply.
  • The current startup page bases the headline value on Business at $20 per member per month billed annually, which gives the $12,000 maximum for 100 members over 6 months.

Frequently asked questions

›Is Notion free for startups?

Eligible startups can get the Notion Business plan, including Notion AI, free for up to 6 months, worth up to $12,000 for a 100-person team. Most verified startups without a partner get 3 months, and very small companies or service businesses get 1 month.

›How do I get the 6-month offer instead of 3 months?

The 6-month offer is for startups affiliated with one of Notion's select startup partners, such as VCs and accelerators in its partner network. Get a unique code from your partner and include it in your application. Without a partner, a verified startup with a business website and company-domain email gets 3 months.

›Why did I only get a 1-month Notion trial?

Notion gives 1 month to companies with fewer than 10 employees, SMBs and service-based businesses such as agencies and consultancies, and to applicants it couldn't verify as startups. Common reasons include an inactive or incomplete website, only personal social profiles, too little business information, or applying as a solo founder.

›Who is eligible for Notion for Startups?

Non-paying Notion customers with a valid work email (not Gmail, Outlook and the like), no previous Notion promotions and fewer than 100 employees.

›I already pay for Notion. Can I switch to the startup offer?

No. Notion's help center says the offer doesn't apply to existing paid customers and that past invoices aren't refunded.

›How is the $12,000 value calculated?

Notion bases it on the Business plan at $20 per member per month billed annually: 100 members × $20 × 6 months = $12,000. A smaller team saves proportionally less, for example 10 members × $20 × 3 months = $600.

›How long does approval take?

Notion asks applicants to allow 3–5 business days for an update. Once approved, you get a confirmation email and the Business plan applies to your workspace immediately.

›Can I combine it with other Notion offers or use it on Enterprise?

No. Notion says the offer can be redeemed only once, even if you're affiliated with several partners, can't be combined with other offers or codes, and doesn't apply to Enterprise plans.

›What happens when the free period ends?

Notion's public startup pages don't say. Before the free months end, check your workspace's billing settings and decide whether to keep paying for Business, move to a cheaper plan, or downgrade.
